When floods swept through Upper Assam, they left behind more than damaged homes and fields. They disrupted the daily lives of children, their classrooms, and their sense of normalcy. In the weeks that followed, our team set out to help the youngest members of the community get back on their feet. We visited seven schools across the district, including Kherbari Lower Primary School, Gowalapothar Middle English School, Naphuk Tea Estate Model School, Kanubhogbari High School, Janaki Pathar Primary School, Rupjyoti Lower Primary School and Gutighat Lower Primary School. At each one, we distributed materials to help students return to learning with the resources they need. But rehabilitation isn’t only about supplies. After a disaster, children also need space to feel safe, heard, and joyful again. So we held storytelling sessions that sparked imagination and conversation, followed by fun game sessions filled with laughter, teamwork, and plenty of energy. Seeing the children’s faces light up reminded us why this work matters.
